Introduction:

With alternative energy solutions being the global focus at present, one of the more under-developed possibilities is that of Wind Power via the use of wind turbines.

We have all seen the pictures of the giant ‘Wind Farms’ in Northern Europe and USA, but these are ‘mega projects’ and require considerable capital commitment usually reserved for Governments, or large energy companies.
South Africa is a country blessed with some pretty impressive winds – particularly ‘down south’ where the famous ‘Black South-Easter’ plies its trade!  However, one doesn’t have to live in the Cape to harness wind power as there are plenty of areas where wind power is a viable alternative for many people.

There is a definite niche market developing for farmers, Game parks, plot holders and holiday homes, as well as the popular boating industries.  There are often opportunities around certain areas of S.A. for harnessing the power of the wind to generate power, over and above the normal, and more popular, solar market.

Modern Turbine technology enables power to be produced from winds as light as 5 KMH and they will still generate power at night or on cloudy days - something solar does not!  It is often a complementary product to a solar system , making the overall power production more reliable and flexible as an overall solution.

“ One of the perceived drawbacks of wind generators was always the ‘noise factor’  but with modern technology integrated into the latest designs,  this is not really as big an issue as it used to be.
PMP also offer a range of Hybrid  Intelligent Inverters that enables those users employing more than a single power source (e.g. Solar, wind and Eskom) to optimise their natural power input before bringing in Eskom power to top up the batteries.”

Plan My Power has researched the global market to offer our clients a comprehensive range of small to medium Wind Turbines from 200W up to 3KW.

If you wish to know whether you live in a ‘wind-friendly’ area, merely click on the link below  and you will get a pretty good idea of the potential for wind power in your area.  Farmers who have been employing wind pumps for water, will already have a good idea of the wind consistency in their area.
